Addiction Treatment

Southern Hill Addiction Treatment Service

The Addiction Treatment Service at Southern Hill Hospital occupies its own dedicated area of the hospital, creating a focused, private and therapeutic environment for adults aged 18 and over affected by substance misuse and co-occurring mental health needs. While separate from other patient areas, the service benefits from the clinical infrastructure, governance and safety of a hospital setting.

Treatment is recovery-focused and delivered through compassionate, evidence-based care, supporting individuals to address their substance use, rebuild stability and confidence, and develop the skills and strategies needed for longer-term recovery.

The hospital's rural location provides a calm and discreet setting away from the pressures and triggers of everyday life, giving individuals space to focus on their treatment and the next stage of their recovery journey.

Why Choose Us?

Regular progress updates for community teams and involved professionals throughout treatment.

  • Transport support to help individuals access the service where required.

  • Crisis intervention for vulnerable individuals who may require additional support to maintain their placement and treatment.

  • Seamless Detox to Rehabilitation Pathway – hospital-based medically assisted detox with the option to transition directly into residential rehabilitation, supporting continuity of care and longer-term recovery.

  • Individual assessment, including consideration of referrals for people who have been asked to leave or whose placement has broken down at another treatment service.

  • Continuity of treatment across our services – where appropriate, an individual who wishes to leave one of our services early may be able to transfer to another within our network to continue their treatment.

  • Treatment days protected – where an agreed transfer takes place, remaining treatment days can be credited towards the alternative service, helping individuals complete their planned programme without losing those days.

Psychological Therapies

Some people accessing treatment at Southern Hill Hospital are living with both addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions. Our Psychology Team provides a comprehensive, evidence-based therapy programme that recognises the close relationship between emotional wellbeing, trauma and substance use.

Using an integrative and person-centred approach, every individual receives a personalised psychological assessment to help shape their recovery journey. Therapy progresses through a structured pathway, beginning with engagement and stabilisation before exploring the underlying factors contributing to addiction and mental ill health. As recovery develops, treatment focuses on building healthier coping strategies, emotional regulation, resilience and relapse prevention, preparing individuals for a successful return to community living.

Working alongside our multidisciplinary team, psychological therapies are tailored to individual need and may include one-to-one therapy, group work, mindfulness and evidence-based therapeutic interventions, helping people build the confidence and skills needed to achieve lasting recovery.
